G rocery pickup edition. They are rebuilding our whole median and everything on the main road so it gives me some time to see what goes by.

How hard can it possibly be to get a 2002 into a parking space?

Looks stripped down. I expected bumpers to match paint and alloy wheels.

Maybe it’s a conversion done by another maker?

Passenger Metris - rarer than the 2002 and almost as rare as the Morris Traveler.

I did some searching last night, I think it might be a Peacevan.

Maybe if they paint the bumpers, people here have tons of money and there are Sprinter Sportsmobiles all over the place so it wouldn’t surprise me. They both have that type of roof.

As soon as I hear MB was doing a camper conversion for the Metris I became very interested in seeing one. It’s a good size, and I know the bare vane is reasonably priced.  I have done a few searches to see if there is any inventory locally, but none were found. I prefer the factory Metris c amper, but maybe the others are more affordable.

MB factory Me tris Camper look s like this:

A guy near me converted a Ford Transit Connect into one with a roof pod thing. He has solar panels and everything. They are just too low for me, if I got a camper it would have to go on my truck or be based on something else 4x4 so I could go to interesting places. I could get a roof pod for my wagon and have similar cap ability . I have a Honda generator and stove that go off propane, I was a Marine so I can set a camp up pretty well, but I’m over being uncomfortable, I did that for years! to be honest if I was really serious about it I might sell my Z and get a surplus LMTV, we had those in the Marines and they can go almost anywhere, have diesels and plenty of parts so they would be easy to maintain. You could take it to any truck mechanic. You could build your own box for the back or use a small shipping container and be able to remove it. You can buy a decent one of these pretty cheap too, cheaper than a used Sprinter and it would kick anythings ass. Nice view from them too, when you aren’t being shot at.

Several years ago, while I was still living in California, the people across the street had visitors for Thanks giving dinn er arrive in a full on expedition Unimog RV. Not massive, but big. This of course was the talk of the neighborhood. Apparently, it was their daughter and SIL, returning from trekking around the world. I have always been interested in this lifestyle, but would like to do it on two wheels. But, financially this will never be in the cards for me. It’s nice to dream though. Heading up to Prudhoe Bay on a motorcycle is still on my list, so there’s always a chance for some adventure.

Well you could build a very capable LMTV for a fraction of a Unimog price. A flatbed LMTV can have anything mounted to it. I’d probably have a friend of mine make an aluminum frame and then I’d build the rest from RV and boat parts. I want something to be inside, after all my time in dodgy places I don’t think I would be comfortable sleeping next to a bike in random places in the world.

For me, m ore simple, like this. Maybe a bit more gear needed though, especially a set of tires and fluids.

I know some BMW guys that do that, they have a lot of experience and still manage to have some incidents!

Very true. I wouldn’t be the guy trying to set speed records, and with 45+ years riding under my belt, I feel confident in my abilities. I know things can happen, I have experienced some “things” many times. I’m still here, whether it is by the grace of God, shear luck or stubborn determination. I’m sure things can happen in the big expedition trucks too, just more of a protective caged barrier to keep ever yt hing protected and contained within.
